ROLAND YEUNG
Born in Melbourne, Roland has completed a Master of Arts degree majoring in conducting studies and music education at Teachers College, Columbia University (NY) and holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Melbourne.
His present position is as Director of Music at Carey Baptist Grammar School since 1993 followed 14 years music teacher, conductor and co-ordinator at Blackburn High School. At Carey, he teaches VCE Year 12, conducts the Senior Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra and leads a staff of 41 classroom and specialist instrumental music teachers.
Roland has worked at state-wide level on music curriculum and assessment for the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority for over 25 years. He recently retired as chief assessor VCE music solo performance. Since 1989 he has been writer for the music study designs, support material and prescribed lists, and has been on numerous VCE committees.
Roland is life member of the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors Association – National, and has life membership of aMuse - the Association of Music Educators (Vic). In July last year was elected President Elect of ABODA National. A part of his new duty is to produce a national conference for band and orchestra directors in 2010 in Melbourne.
