7BA: Teaching Percussion for the Non-Percussionist Teacher
Bruce Pearson (Kjos)
Band directors are often required to teach all of the band instruments. Oftentimes the band director recognizes a need to improve his or her teaching skills in the teaching of percussion instruments to their students. This “hands-on” clinic is designed to meet that need. Clinic participants are required to provide their own drumsticks.

7ST: How to run a great string program
Open forum discussion. Facilitator, Lesley Qualtrough, President, AUSTAVic
What works, what doesn’t? Share information with other string teachers. Be inspired. Tips and new ideas on practicalities, retention, advocacy, repertoire, upper and lower string differences, and anything else you can think of! Bring along your questions and ideas. Non-string teachers in charge of programs will also find this session useful.

7CH: BUILDING AURAL AND READING SKILLS IN YOUR CHOIR

Even advanced performers often quail at the thought of playing anything not notated, thus, denying themselves one of the best ways of enhancing technique, expressiveness and aural skills as well as helping to develop an understanding of musical style.

A demonstration of some key strategies to achieve exemplary performances from your students, and how these will be applied to serve as a powerful method by which students can focus their study. Learn ways to utilise social networking sites, to build an inter-school network.
