The Boîte
The Boite Schools Chorus has been involving schools from across Victoria in massed choral singing events since 2004. The Boite is a not-for-profit, multicultural music organization. The Boite Schools Chorus engages schools with artists from diverse cultural backgrounds and encourages access and participation. As a group we will learn some of the songs that have been highlights for school teachers and students alike and hear some of the stories that teachers have shared with us about their involvement and the reasons why they keep coming back

5PR: Percussion Instruments in the Primary Classroom
Heather McLaughlin (VOSA)
This workshop session will offer activities for 5 to 12 year olds
using basic classroom instruments, with an emphasis on the use of
speech patterns and rhythm. Some of these ideas will be suitable for
supporting LOTE in the school as well as for children new to English.
5MT: Songwriting is Child’s Play
Amy Bennett (the Arts Centre Digital Learning Hub)
With the formation of more student bands in schools, an exciting possibility arises to allow students to experiment with composition and songwriting for each others’ groups, allowing their own songs to sit in setlists with those of the bands they love. This session discusses how to best formulate a healthy and active songwriting program where students are comfortable and excited to write music for each other. Topics will include the musical language and techniques of songwriting, how to break down a great song in a way young songwriters understand, how a student can communicate musical ideas to their peers, the possibilities for recording and performing the students’ own material and some of the technical gear handy for use with student bands. This session is aimed at teachers of students in upper primary and lower/mid secondary with an interest in composition and songwriting.
